Stealing my time
Recently someone asked me to do a large commission. They even gave me the names of 2 of my paintings that they liked so that I could do something similar.
I bought the canvas for $200, spent a lot of time working on it. Then the client started making up excuses as to why she did not want it.
I feel that it was a case of irresponsibly getting someone to make a big effort just to see what would happen.
Before you get someone to go to a lot of trouble for you, think about the responsibility that comes with it. It’s easy to make a loud noise, but if you are not prepared to follow up with the necessary commitment, then keep your mouth shut and don’t waste someone else’s money, effort and time!

Hi Colin, A 'friend' of mine did exactly the same thing to me. I will never forget, it was like being insulted. Perhaps I am too thin skinned. I no longer paint commissions. I paint to suit myself and if someone wishes to purchase it, great, I am happy to sell. However I am not a professional painter. Cheers, Margaret in Far North Queensland.
Thanks Margaret, Thin-skinned or not, when you are given guidelines, you follow them and then the work is rejected, it is the client who is not genuine.
