New creativity from old hands

It is strange how many people love the sea. Property prices along the seashore are always at a premium. Many, many people dream of a holiday near the beach. What is the attraction? Why do so many need to travel such long distances so that they can spend some soothing time by the sea?

I am a seascape artist. The theme of all of my work is peace and beauty. I do not consciously try to achieve this when I paint, rather it is the result of not trying to do anything except express something within that makes me satisfied when a painting is complete.

Peace and beauty are the result of not trying to create them. Trying creates tension. This is not peaceful. I paint peace and beauty because I don’t care!

Have you ever watched a couple in a restaurant who were obviously not well acquainted, maybe on their first date. Notice how unnatural the movements, the smiles, the body language. The whole interaction is one of unease as they try to find their way to familiar ground in an unfamiliar situation.

It is so different when you observe an older couple, perhaps who have been together for years. Then there is an ease, a peace. There is no discomfort, no loss of words or seeking a common point for conversation. There is a contentment with each others company.

This is the difference between the work of an early artist and that of a mature artist. The beginner is still on his first date, desperately trying to discover his partner and possibly lover, the painting. The old artist is comfortable and the moves are relaxed, familiar and controlled. There is no luck involved. There are no mistakes. It is like a beautifully choreographed and rehearsed dance.

So why do people love the sea? I am not sure, but they love my seascapes because they are comfortable with an old relationship built on love.

Perhaps this idea of practice until ease and beauty is the result is the key to lasting love and harmony in all relationships including with ourselves!

The sea has a tenderness of blue; deep and unfathomable. The secrets of the seas; not even our forefathers understand. Yet it never tires; never lets down to provide what is needed most; an air of tranquility. Many a people love the allure of finesse derived from the seaside; the roughness during high tides reflect new couples desiring to know what the other likes most; whether tea or coffee…and if one, how hot or warm? It feels so right at times..when I stand by the pier and let the evening sea breeze brush my hair and cross my face: It feel so benign to let the past lay with the old..and the new find an understanding with the good old: It feels so right when I walk on the white sandy beaches by the sea, and calm smile play on my lips like a flute at the contrast of colours of my legs and the sand, for only then you understand the intricate balance of nature. It feels so benign….
